Leak finder
Where is your roof leaking?
Most roof leaks start in one of five places. Tap each one to see the signs and the usual fix.
Screws & washers
The most common leak. Rubber washers crack in the sun and screws loosen as the roof heats and cools.
- Drips in lines along the ceiling
- Fixed by replacing screws and washers
- One of the cheapest roof repairs
Ridge cap
The cap along the top covers the gap between the two slopes. If it's loose or badly sealed, wind drives rain in.
- Leaks near the middle of the house
- Often only in wind and heavy rain
- Fixed by refixing and sealing the cap
Flashing at walls
Where the roof meets a wall, chimney or a higher roof, flashing covers the joint. When it cracks or lifts, water runs down the wall.
- Stains where the ceiling meets the wall
- Common where an extension joins the house
- Fixed by resealing or replacing flashing
Rusted sheets
Once rust goes through the sheet there's a hole, and no amount of paint will seal it.
- Drips in one spot, getting worse
- Visible rust holes from on top
- Fixed by replacing the sheet
Gutters & edge
Blocked or sagging gutters overflow back under the sheets and into the fascia and walls.
- Water on outside walls and under the eaves
- Rotting fascia boards
- Fixed by clearing, re-hanging or replacing gutters
Roof checker
Repair or replace your roof?
Three quick questions and you'll get a likely answer and a checklist to take to a roofer.
Repair should do it
A general guide, not a substitute for an inspection. A roofer needs to see the roof, on top and underneath, to say for sure.
Protect yourself
Six rules for hiring a roofer in Trinidad
Most bad roofing jobs come down to the same few mistakes. Avoid them and you avoid most of the risk.
Get it in writing
Sheet type and gauge, screws, flashing, any wood replaced and the total. Not a number on WhatsApp.
Don't pay it all up front
A deposit for materials is normal. Pay the rest as the work is done and checked.
Ask for photos
Of the problem before and of the fix after, especially what's hidden under the sheets.
Ask about strapping
When sheets are off, it's the cheapest time to add hurricane straps and fix rotten wood.
Check past jobs
Ask to see photos of finished roofs, or speak to a past customer if you can.
Test after rain
Agree the roofer will come back if the leak isn't fixed after the next heavy rain.

Questions
Roofing in Trinidad: common questions
How does Roofing Done Right TT work?
Call or WhatsApp us with your area and the problem. We pass it to an independent local roofer who covers your part of Trinidad. They inspect, then give you a written quote before any work starts.
How much does roof repair or a new roof cost in Trinidad?
It depends on the size of the roof, the sheets, and how much of the structure needs work. A fair price needs an inspection. Get a written quote and compare what's included, not just the total.
Repair or replace: how do I know?
If the sheets are mostly solid and leaks come from screws, flashing or a few sheets, repair. If rust has gone through in many places or the wood underneath is rotten, replacement usually costs less in the long run. Try the roof checker above.
Can a roofer come during the rainy season?
Yes. Roofers work between showers. In an emergency they can cover the roof with tarpaulin first, then repair when it's dry.
Do I need approval to replace my roof?
Replacing a roof like-for-like usually doesn't. Changing the roof shape or adding a floor usually does. Your roofer or Regional Corporation can confirm.
Which areas of Trinidad do you cover?
Chaguanas, Port of Spain, San Fernando, Arima, Penal, Diego Martin and the towns around them, including Couva, Cunupia, Marabella, Tunapuna and St. Augustine.
Do you do small jobs?
Yes. Replacing screws, fixing one leak, clearing gutters or adding straps are all welcome.
